teachable moments....

What would you do if you found one of these on the floor?

Ryan found one on the floor at 'Toys R Us' tonight.
I was in disbelief until he showed it to me.
I held onto it until we left the store and then I handed it back to him
and told him that he had a decision to make.
He could either keep it and go home
OR
he could go back in to the store and talk to the manager about it.
He chose to go back into the store.
I explained to him that they may:
a) keep it
b) let him keep it
c) tell him they will hang onto it for a couple days
with his phone number and call him if no one
comes in claiming to have lost the money
He explained to the manager what had happened and where he found it.
She thanked him for being so honest.
She told us that she had just pulled that till (by where it was found)
and had been counting it over and over and it kept coming up short.
I told her that I had left the decision of what to do up to Ryan.
She again thanked him for his honesty.
As we left, I told Ryan how very proud of him I was.
(and still am!)
He said he felt better having been honest and given it back.
I explained to him what could have happened to the cashier who had
been running that register had he kept the money and it came up short.
He felt even better and was thankful that cashier would not get in trouble.
I love teachable moments....

I haven't had a chance to get into the pictures yet, busy working on a quit and just to busy at work, all I want to do is rest at night. Ryan I'm proud of how you handled the money you found. Most people would haven';t walked out and kept the money for themselves without thinking about what the person would have done who lost the money, in this case the cashier, would have been hard for her to come up with the money and probably would have been fired.
